History of the Turtle

Since the earliest days of civilization, turtles have been considered a sacred, spiritual, or magical reptile from China to Mesopotamia to the Americas.  They have been a symbol of longevity or immortality because of their inspiring lifespans.  Turtles have also been associated with fertility. Finally, they are a symbol of patience and wisdom as illustrated in “The Tortoise and the Hare,” the well-known fable by Aesop.  The turtle’s single-minded determination helped him accomplish a great feat.
